The University of Pittsburgh Scientific Glass Shop provides custom scientific glass fabrication, precision glass repair, and the construction of complex laboratory apparatus for researchers across the University and external collaborators. From simple repairs to sophisticated high-vacuum systems, the shop supports a wide range of research by providing high-quality, custom-fabricated glassware designed to meet each investigator's unique needs.

Kiva Ford, Scientific Glassblower, brings decades of experience in scientific glassblowing and specializes in the design and fabrication of custom apparatus in both borosilicate and fused quartz. The Glass Shop produces everything from specialized reaction vessels, Schlenk lines, vacuum manifolds, and quartz reactors to intricate glass components for analytical instrumentation and other research applications. Whether repairing existing equipment or fabricating a completely custom design, the goal is to provide reliable, high-quality glassware that advances scientific research.

The Glass Shop frequently collaborates with the University's Machine Shop and Electronics Shop to develop integrated solutions for complex research challenges. By combining expertise across multiple disciplines, researchers can obtain custom equipment that would be difficult or impossible to purchase commercially.
