William MacDonald, PhD

Dr. William MacDonald is the Associate Director of the University of Pittsburgh Health Sciences Sequencing Core (HSSC). Dr. MacDonald joined the HSSC in 2019, where he manages day-to-day operations of the core and provides consultation on projects. He has extensive experience in the fields of next-generation sequencing and spatial transcriptomics. Dr. MacDonald oversees the development of services offered by the HSSC and adapts current workflows to accommodate the processing of challenging samples when required.

Dr. MacDonald completed his PhD at Dalhousie University (Halifax, Canada) working on epigenetics and chromatin regulation. He was a Postdoctoral Associate at the Children's Health Research Institute (Western University, Canada) where he studied genomic imprinting and DNA methylation in preimplantation embryos. Dr. MacDonald continued his research on genomic imprinting as a Research Associate at the Magee-Womans Research Institute (Pittsburgh, USA).
